Who handles the foundation?
The foundation is administrated by the Forchheimer family. The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) is in charge of reviewing and nominating articles from the ISPO journal leading up to the congress. The article that best supports the mission of the foundation is awarded. Since 2013 ISPO’s International Congress takes place every other year and so does the award ceremony.
“Technology must serve man, not the other way round.”
The best contribution in the area of “Clinical assessment, measurement and evaluation” is awarded. This means that the research needs to evaluate different treatment methods to support a personalized wellbeing and the technical solution need to serve humanity as well as the individual. By awarding research that aims to help people in need of orthoses/prosthetics we believe that we can bridge the dimension between medicine, technology and humanity.
Who has received the award?
The prize was first awarded at ISPO’s congress in Kobe, Japan in 1989. An English researcher received the modest sum of SEK 4,000. The prize fund has now risen to SEK 75,000.
